Why Do We Charge An Additional Fee For Aftermarket Mats?!

Let’s talk about why there is an additional charge for aftermarket floor mats! What are aftermarket floor mats anyways? Well, they are the rubber floor mats that did not originally come with the vehicle. Oftentimes they are an additional purchase made after buying a vehicle new, and they are custom made. They are not an original part of the vehicle like the carpeted floor mats. They are thick textured rubber mats with intricate designs. They are great for protecting your vehicle's carpet and preserving its value. So why is there an additional charge to get them detailed?! Due to the textures and the designs in these mats they are actually much harder to clean. They require a different cleaning process that is more time consuming and attention to detail.

How do we clean aftermarket mats?

First we start by removing all loose debris in the mats. Then depending on the design we will pick and scrap out all of the gravel and debris stuck inside the cracks of the design. Then we will dry scrub anything else stuck on the mats with a bristle brush.

After that we will treat the mats with cleaning chemicals and we steam clean the mats one section at a time. In between each section we hand dry the mats to ensure none of the dirty water dries back on the mat.

Once the entire mat has been cleaned once it is hand dried and placed upside down to air dry while we work on the next mat. We do this to ensure that any dirty water left finds its way off of the mat. After each mat has been steam cleaned and air dried they are more often than not cleaned 2 or 3 more times due to the build up inside the fine textures of the mats.

Once the mats have been thoroughly cleaned and dried the mats are then polished with a lubricating protectant to preserve their value and keep your vehicle looking sharp!

This is a time consuming and dirty process. The additional time and labor it takes to properly clean and detail these mats are the reasons why we, and other professional detailers, charge additional fees for aftermarket mats.
